Boulder Goes Green

The University of Colorado at Boulder is committed to making the campus as environmentally friendly as possible.  In recent years, this has included a major campus wide recycling program along with an ongoing effort to make all new construction meet the Federally established Green Building guidelines.

Of course, the city of Boulder is also strong advocate for introducing environmentally sustainable practices.  This exists on both the governmental level and on the local level, with Boulder residents working hard to protect their beautiful surroundings.

New Apartment Complex by 29th Street Mall:

Big change coming for apartment complex just northeast of 29th street mall in Boulder! Fisk and Della Cava, developers of this project, plan on turning the 4 acre parking lot into a 6 million, 238 unit residential apartments for market-rate rentals for “work force”. Cava is planning on financially backing up this master plan with the money he receives from the HUD loan by March 15th.  Due to tight credit markets, many of the residential projects in Boulder have been dormant for many months, and Cava hopes that being approved by the HUD loan will insure the success of this project.  The Workers are preparing to excavate in the next couple of weeks, and finish no later then fall 2011.

Pre-Cautions against H1N1

CU students, be smart about the H1N1 virus, if you are having flu-like symptoms take basic precautions, isolate yourself in your room for a few days; cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze; and either frequently wash your hands with soap and warm water or simply sanitize your hands throughout the day.  Also, those that may have these symptoms are advised to stay out of large groups/events that may be ongoing.

As of now there have 49 cases of H1N1 amongst students, 1 in which has been hospitalized, as the 2009 fall semester begins.  Those that are highly at risk would be small children, those with a weak immune system and pregnant women.  If you feel that you may have any flu-like symptoms that may be caused by the virus you can call Wardenburg Health Center at 303-492-3435. Parents with H1N1 concerns are encouraged to call 303-492-4636.  Let’s play it safe this year students, take a few days to get over your flu by yourself, indoors, that way you don’t contribute to spreading the virus.  Please don’t take this lightly as it can be very life threatening!
